Matt Markgraf, WKMS

The Land Between the Lakes Homeplace 1850s Working Farm hosts the 18th annual Pickin’ Party Old-time Music Festival June 11 and 12. From 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. that Saturday and Sunday, people can relive the way people would gather to celebrate with old-time music. On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross speaks with Public Relations Specialist Josh Frye about the summer activities.

The Pickin' Party line up includes the bands Common Thread, Mark Dvorak, The Dixie Volunteers, Cumberland River Plowboys, and All Strung Out. Also, Kentucky Chautauqua’s David Hurt will portray Grandpa Jones, an old-time musician who was born in Henderson County, Kentucky.

Paducah musicians Nathan Blake Lynn and Josh Coffey are emceeing the family friendly festival. Frye says people can participate in the music. “What’s really unique about this event is you can come down and you can actually bring your instrument of choice and you can jam with them,” Frye says. “Bring your picnic blanket, bring your chairs out there. Food is available for purchase."

Festival and farm admission prices are as follows:

·         4 years and younger – free

·         5 years to 12 years - $5

·         13+ years - $7

Other summer activities include the Wildlife Celebration at the Nature Station this Memorial Day weekend. Saturday through Monday, visitors can see and learn about regional wildlife and participate in activities like canoeing and turtle feeding. Visitors can also visit the Planetarium, which offers laser light shows and astronomy shows throughout the summer.
