In the next two weeks, Paducah's Maiden Alley Cinema is featuring Todd Solondz's comedy Wiener-Dog, about a dachsund and its many dysfunctional owners. Plus, MAC hosts aspiring filmmakers for the annual 48 Hour Film Project. John Null caught up with MAC's John Holt to discuss the coming attractions.
Wiener-Dog stars Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha), Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist), Danny DeVito (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Julie Delpy (Before Sunrise), Kieran Culkin (Igby Goes Down) and Zosia Mamet (HBO's Girls). It's a semi-sequel to Solondz's Welcome to the Dollhouse and features that film's protagonist (Gerwig) as one of several owners of the titular Wiener-Dog. It starts Friday, August 5 and plays through Tuesday, August 9.
MAC will also feature Tim Burton's Pee-wee's Big Adventure on Saturday, August 6 at 4 p.m. as part of the Movies for Me series and then hosts Places in the Heart on Monday evening as part of the Faith in Film lineup.
Those interested in participating in The 48 Hour Film Project can pick up their first team clues on Friday, August 5. Teams receive additional clues and have to produce a short film based on them over the weekend. The winner will be declared by three out-of-town judges, but all of the films will be screened at MAC the weekend of August 12 and audience awards will be given.
