Sci-Fi Friday Features Ridley Scott's 'Alien', Panel Discussion on Gender

WKMS

WKMS is partnering with Murray State University's Cinema International for this year's Sci-Fi Friday selection: Ridley Scott's 1979 science fiction/horror classic, Alien.

The movie stars Sigourney Weaver in her iconic role as Ellen Ripley, warrant officer aboard the Nostromo, a commercial spacecraft far from Earth in the year 2122. After the ship's crew picks up on a transmission from a derelict ship on foreboding moon LV-426, they fall prey to a terrifying new species. Tom Skerritt, Ian Holm, Yaphet Kotto, John Hurt, Veronica Cartwright and Harry Dean Stanton co-star.

Cinema International presentations are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 in the Curris Center Theater. A panel on gender in motion pictures will begin at 6:30 before Friday's showing featuring Murray State professors Andy Black and Cynthia Gayman.

All Cinema International screenings are free and open to the public. Donations to Cinema International can be made through Murray State's Office of Development.

John Null is the host and creator of Left of the Dial. From 2013-2016, he also served as a reporter in the WKMS newsroom.
