KY Poet Laureate Hosts "Call to Action" for Artists

University of Kentucky professor and poet Frank X Walker is “calling all creatives” to join together Saturday in his hometown Danville for a “call to action” forum.

Walker organized the event  for artists in the Commonwealth to discuss forming alliances and possibly a party affiliation with the arts. Walker says knowing other artists is a resource and he hopes to impact artists in smaller cities.

“Artists in smaller cities struggle more than artists in larger cities. I think there’s more resources in larger cities. There are some towns and counties that don’t even have art councils. I'm trying to figure out a way to create something that’s an equalizer and that doesn’t penalize a community or an artist that lives in a smaller community.”

The forum will be held at Danville High School’s Gravely Auditorium from 12-3 p.m. All artists including pianists, poets laureate, book lovers, thespians, musicians, grass roots activists, photographers, filmmakers, arts organizers, arts administrators, writers, artists, art patrons, barbers, and hair stylists are invited to attend.
