A Murray State University alumnus and actor who had roles in HBO’s Deadwood and AMC’s Preacher will be featured in a campus theatre production this month.

W. Earl Brown will play ‘Big Daddy’ in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams. The play centers around Brick, Maggie and Big Daddy - a plantation owner dying from cancer. Theatre professor Lissa Graham-Schneider directs the production. She said Brown’s participation will benefit students.

“He’s been trained at some of the best schools in the country. He’s been on some of the biggest television shows and some huge movies and so they’re going to get the wealth of his experience. They’ll get to know him plus they'll make the contact,” Graham-Schneider said.

Helena Jones is a senior at Murray State university and plays opposite of Brown as Big Mama. She said she looks forward to working with a professional actor. The show opens April 27. The Murray State Alumni Association also recently named Brown as one of the 2017 recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award. Professor Daryl Phillipy will step in for Brown should there be a scheduling conflict.
