Design plans have been unveiled for a new memorial honoring the victims of a 1997 school shooting in west Kentucky.

The Paducah Sun reports that organizers are seeking donations for the memorial commemorating the shooting at Heath High School that left three students dead and others injured.

Plans began earlier this year when community members lobbied the McCracken County School Board to approve relocating pieces of a memorial at Heath Middle School to a more accessible site.

Organizers said the memorial needs major repairs.

Existing components will be integrated into the new site. School board vice chair Steve Shelby says $20,000 is earmarked for the project in addition to land and electricity. The memorial is expected to cost around $80,000, according to the Heath High School Memorial Committee Facebook page.
