Paducah City Commission Reviews Loan Offer for New Hotel

A new Paducah hotel that would connect to the Julian Carroll Convention Center downtown is one small step closer to coming to fruition.

The City Commission met with City Attorney David Denton in closed session this morning to review a loan offer for the project. A local bank gave the developer that offer this week. City spokesperson Pam Spencer says the plans are not final yet.

“The next step that we’re hoping to have accomplished is the development agreement between the city and the developers to get in its final draft and hopefully come before the City Commission within the next few weeks,” she says.

Spencer says Mayor Gayle Kaler hopes to have that agreement signed by the end of September. The planned hotel is six-stories, has 121 rooms and would be connected to the convention center via a pedestrian bridge over the floodwall. The convention center’s former hotel the Executive Inn closed in 2008 after utilities were disconnected for non-payment. The city demolished the hotel in 2011. Spencer says if plans go as expected, the hotel could open for the 2015 quilt show.
