Paducah’s Riverport Cargo Yard is undergoing improvements made possible through a new investment from The Delta Regional Authority.
Together with federal and local-based partners, the DRA and Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin announced Tuesday $1.7 million in new DRA investments to strengthen state’s infrastructure, workforce, and economy.
The riverport will receive $427,000 in total investments, encompassing $307,000 of the DRA’s investment in the project. Executive Director of Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority Bill Miller said the grant will help the riverport keep up with products increasingly coming into the region due to plant expansions.
“The investment is to concrete a 900-cubic yard area of terminal with 12-inches of base concrete that can support the weight loads of container stacks as well as aluminum and steel products,” said Miller.
The DRA said the grant will ensure safe transit at the facility and provide support for container-on-barge operations. The project is expected to enhance the river port's ability to attract new industry and serve a larger variety of customers.
DRA partnerships are expected to bring a total of $5.6 million in new investments to Kentucky.
