The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County is rolling up its sleeves to scrub the dirt off a bit of history. Join us on Tuesday, August 30 at 6pm in Pioneer Cemetery* for our third Tombstone Tuesday of the summer. This month, we will be cleaning the few tombstones that still need a scrub, and we will be documenting the work that we have done.

Pioneer Cemetery is the oldest public burial ground in the city. Donated by Bartholomew Wood, our town's founder, the cemetery dates to 1812 and is the final resting place of at least 165 of our community's earliest residents. Folks will receive a brief training on how to document and clean historic tombstones safely before grabbing a bucket and brush or a clipboard and tape measure.

Can’t join us this month? We will host one more Tombstone Tuesday on September, 27 at 6pm. Since we will finish Pioneer Cemetery this month, we will post details about our work closer to the event.
