In this introduction to ceramics class, we will be exploring the 3 basic hand-building techniques in clay: pinching, coiling, and slab building. These foundational skills will be combined to create sculptural and functional objects. Students will be able to decorate their work through surface textures and glazing methods. Beginners and Intermediates welcome! Bring an old towel.

The Murray State University Libraries are pleased to host Dr. Kelley Fanto Deetz as part of the events surrounding the traveling Smithsonian Exhibit 'FOOD: Transforming the American Table.' Dr. Deetz's scholarship researches the history of enslaved Africans and African Americans and elevates their stories.
Her work has been featured in publications such as the Smithsonian Magazine, Vanity Fair, The Washington Post. Her visit to campus is a wonderful opportunity for Murray State faculty, staff, and students to learn from and ask questions of a renowned scholar of American history."
The Murray State University Jazz Ensembles under the direction of Professor Todd Hill will present their Fall Campus Concert on Thursday, November 7 in Lovett Auditorium. The Gold and Blue Jazz Combos will perform small group selections by Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius and more at 6pm. The Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Band will perform big band classics by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Gordon Goodwin and more starting at 7:30pm. The concert is free and the public is invited.

Monsieur le Comte d’Avignon is a wealthy French aristocrat who has lived in New Orleans for many years. His French friends call him ”Comte,” which means the Count, but his American friends call him “The Commodore” because he founded and funds the Bayou Yacht Club. His favorite party of the year is Yacht Club Christmas Party where everyone wears a tacky Christmas Sweater.
Murder is afoot at the Christmas Party as the guests all try to figure out who murdered the host!Tickets include dinner and a show. A cash bar is available during the event.

This year is the 43rd annual MAG Holiday Sale. This is a one day indoor sale of fine art and craft held at Murray’s SpringHill Suites (1512 N 12th Street -HWY 641 North). Saturday, Nov. 9, 9am - 5pm will bring 25+ vendors to the event. Welcoming new vendors and featuring some event favorites, items include jewelry, ceramics, books, fiber arts, fine art, seasonal items and more. The show is eclectic with a varied price range. One of Murray’s favorite holiday shopping events.
Sales support local artists as well as the MAG. This year, proceeds will support the Weaver Challenge.
