Former McCracken County Jailer Tonya Ray Found Guilty Of Perjury

MCCRACKEN COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT.

A McCracken County jury has found former McCracken County Jailer Tonya Ray guilty of one count of first-degree perjury after deliberations Thursday.

McCracken County Circuit Court Clerk Kim Channell confirmed the verdict to WKMS. The perjury charge originated from a 2017 trial.

A former McCracken County deputy jailer at the trial was accused of moving inmates from protective custody to the jail's general population without permission. Ray had testified in that trial the jail was operating under an old state manual that didn’t include current rules. A Kentucky State Police investigation found that the current rules were in place at the time. Ray was then charged with perjury. Perjury in the first-degree is a class D felony.
