Marshall County High School Implements Morning Bag Check

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Marshall County High School is now checking students' bags each morning as they come to school.

The change follows a shooting in the school last week that left two students dead and more than a dozen with gunshot wounds.

Amy Waggoner is the former principal and is volunteering at the school. She said the bag check is for the student’s ‘peace of mind.’

“I think it was something that made them feel a little better, it’s like Disney World, we’re checking bags and everything’s good. It doesn’t take but just a second, the kids didn’t seem to mind and lines moved quickly.” Waggoner said.
The bag check started Tuesday morning in the front office and gymnasium.

The school is also offering counseling services for students. Public counseling services are available at the ‘Old Pepsi Plant’ in Benton.
