The family of a student killed in the 2018 Marshall County High School shooting is filing suit against the shooter’s mother and stepfather.
The family of Preston Cope filed suit Wednesday. The family is of the second student killed in the shooting. The family of Bailey Holt, the other student killed, and three other families of injured students filed a similar suit on Tuesday. But that case also seeks damages from the school district. Cope’s family is not suing Marshall County School District.
The Lexington-based attorneys representing Cope’s family say the shooter’s parents should have better secured the gun and should have known about the shooter’s dangerous tendencies.
Marshall County community members held a vigil Wednesday evening at Mike Miller park in Draffenville, Kentucky.
