Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park near Dawson Springs offers wilderness hikes of varying lengths the first of every month as part of a national initiative to help people get out and get active. Naturalist and Recreation Supervisor Rebecca Clark leads the hikes and speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about the upcoming hikes this summer.
There are a variety of trails one can hike at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, including bike and horseback riding trails. The coordinated hikes are the first of each month, weather depending. On July 1st, Clark will lead a hike along the lake. On August 1st, she'll do a night hike in the golf course. She recommends for physical requirements that you feel you can manage a hike a moderate distance (the lake trail is 1.8 miles) and asks that children be above the age of five and can also handle the walk. Also, leashed dogs are welcome.
