The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hopes to complete this week what could be the last round of geotechnical work at the new Kentucky Lake bridge site. A drilling rig has been on site over the last few weeks gathering data on bridge pier placement. KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says drilling should finish this week. He says engineers will use the data to finish the bridge design.
“The other thing that we have coming at us is late this year, early next year, we’re probably going to bid an advance project on the new bridge, and what this will do is this will be for the construction of an approach span that will cross the lagoon on the Aurora side of the bridge," said Todd.
Todd says the approach span construction in 2013 will prepare for the start of bridge construction in 2014. The new bridge replaces the Eggners Ferry Bridge that connects Marshall and Trigg counties. It’s expected to take four years to complete. Construction on a twin bridge over Barkley Lake is also set to begin in the next few years.
