Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen says the McCracken County Clerk’s Office violated state statute in 2011. According to the annual audit report, the McCracken County Fiscal Court failed to set a maximum county clerk salary order, which the clerk uses to hire deputies and assistants and provide fringe benefits. County Clerk Jeff Jerrell says he submitted a salary order to the April 25, 2011 meeting for approval, but Judge Executive Van Newberry omitted it from the meeting agenda. Newberry’s office declined to comment until the judge executive could review the full audit report. The state auditor’s office says state law mandates the fiscal court pass a maximum salary order annually.
