New Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center Receives Funding

Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center

The Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center in Greenville is ready to begin construction on a new facility that will create 25 additional jobs.

The vocational evaluation and training center received a $500,000 Kentucky Department for Local Government grant Tuesday, matching $500,000 federal grant.

Executive Director Chuck Bridges said the poor condition of the current building made the new facility necessary.

“It’s been around over 40 years,” Bridges said. “It’s an old building – hard to maintain, hard to keep. This new building will give our clients better working conditions, and hopefully help us get additional projects and work for them to do.”

The center aims to rehabilitate individuals with disabilities and prepare them for jobs in competitive employment. The center also provides long-term employment through small parts assembly work for those unable to reach competitive employment.

Bridges said he expects construction to begin sometime this month, finishing by the end of the year.
