Former Kentucky state Sen. Joey Pendleton says he will file papers this week to run for mayor of Hopkinsville.
Pendleton, a Democrat, served in the state legislature for two decades before losing to Whitney Westerfield in 2012.
He confirmed his bid for mayor at Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at the long-in-development Oak Grove Village – a commercial project he said will help bridge the two biggest cities in Christian County and keep money in Kentucky.
“New Providence was an entity, as Oak Grove is, and Clarksville was an entity,” Pendleton said. “Now you don’t know where one stops and the other one starts. That same thing I can see here with Oak Grove and Hopkinsville. I feel like I’m the candidate that can bring the two entities together.”
Current Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp is not seeking a third term. Former Christian County Chamber of Commerce President Carter Hendricks and businessman Jason McGraw will face off in May’s Republican primary.
