A fifth candidate is likely to emerge in the Hopkinsville mayoral race.

Independent Candidate Walter Shamble has filed his letter of intent with the county clerk’s office, ahead of an April 1st deadline.

Clerk’s office officials says the letter doesn’t make Shamble's candidacy official. The deadline for independents to officially file is August 12th.

According to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance, Shamble launched two unsuccessful bids for mayor in 2006 and 2010.

The mayoral race is already crowded with four candidates facing off in two primaries on May 20th; Willie Kendrick and Joey Pendleton on the Democratic ballot, and Jason McCraw and Carter Hendricks running as Republicans.

Current Mayor Dan Kemp announced last year he’ll be retiring when his term expires.

Rob Canning is a native of Murray, KY, a 2015 TV Production grad of Murray State. At MSU, he served as team captain of the Murray State Rowing Club. Rob's goal is to become a screenwriter, film director or producer and looks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie for inspiration. He appreciates good music, mainly favoring British rock n' roll, and approves of anything with Jack White's name on it. When not studying, rowing or writing, Rob enjoys spending his free time with a book or guitar.
