Watkins Holds onto 3rd District State House Seat
Incumbent Democratic Representative Gerald Watkins held off Republican challenger Randy Bridges, winning Kentucky’s 3rd District State House seat. Watkins says it proved to be a tough race.
“I ran a very positive campaign, but it was very negative against me. And, you know, they felt like they could get control of the House by winning in the west and that’s why I was in the crosshairs,” he said.
Watkins says his top priorities are jobs and education for Paducah and McCracken County. He says the Right to Work issue and the minimum wage are also on his agenda for the next session of the state legislature.
Watkins also says serving with Republican 2nd District State Senator Danny Carroll will be easy. He had worked with Carroll, a retired assistant police chief, while serving on the Paducah City Commission.
Democrats still hold the state House majority.
