New McCracken County Fiscal Court Making Changes Under Leeper

Lance Dennee

The McCracken County Fiscal Court held its first regularly scheduled meeting of the year Monday night, and the first under new judge-executive Bob Leeper.

The fiscal court will be making some changes under Leeper, including the public comment portion of meetings.

“We are not going to have the public comment period that we’ve had before,” Leeper said. “If someone has a new item, I ask that they contact me or one of the commissioners and ask for that to be placed on the agenda for discussion at the next meeting and we’ll take that under advisement and be prepared to have a discussion.”

The meeting time of the fiscal court is also going to be discussed to allow more time between when the agenda is set and the meeting to allow the commission to prepare. A budget workshop will be held on Friday to educate the court on how to strategize the upcoming budget planning, Leeper said.

In other business, the fiscal court will follow recommendations by the animal shelter task force and begin negotiations with the McCracken County Humane Society.

“I do believe everyone wants to find a resolution and take care of the animals as quickly as possible and in a better fashion,” Leeper said. “The task force previously had asked, recommended the city, the humane society and the county get together and try to come up with a resolution to the problem. I’m going to ask the commissioners that if there are not objection, I’m going to move forward with that strategy.”
