After a four-month search, the Kentucky Board of Education has named its five top candidates to succeed former commissioner Terry Holliday, who retires next week.
Those candidates include:
- Kathleen Airhart, Tennessee Department of Education deputy commissioner and COO
- Buddy Berry, Superintendent of the Eminence, Kentucky school system
- Christopher Koch, President of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation
- Lloyd Martin, CEO of the Florida-based education consultancy firm Universal School Solutions, LLC
- Stephen Pruitt, senior vice president of educational reform nonprofit Achieve Inc.
The Board of Education meets Friday and Saturday in Lexington to conduct another round of interviews. Until a successor can be named, Associate Commissioner and General Council Kevin Brown will serve in Holliday’s stead.
