Kentucky’s junior U.S. Senator believes this week’s election results signal a sea change in the Commonwealth’s political history.
Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul of Bowling Green says Tuesday's results are further evidence of how the GOP has made inroads with voters across the state.
“I think this is the tipping of the scales in the sense that this is the first time we have won four out of the six statewide offices, and really won by a large margin the governor’s race," Paul said. "So I think this puts us in a very good position to try to make Kentucky a more business-friendly state.”
Governor-elect Matt Bevin has promised to move new teachers into a 401k style pension plan, and push for what supporters call “right to work” legislation.
Democrats have vowed to fight the moves, and will still control the state House of Representatives where they can block such legislation.
