Kentucky House Speaker Sues Gov. Bevin for Refusing to Disclose Emails

House Speaker Greg Stumbo is suing Republican Gov. Matt Bevin for refusing to release 13 pages of emails relating to a road project in central Kentucky.

The Democratic lawmaker filed the lawsuit Friday morning in Franklin Circuit Court.

Stumbo asked for the emails as part of the investigationabout whether Bevin delayed the road project to punish a Democratic state lawmaker for refusing to switch parties.  Bevin has denied any wrongdoing and said the project was poorly vetted and rushed by the prior administration.

Last week, Bevin released some emails, but said 13 pages of records were “exempt from disclosure.” Stumbo said all of the emails should be public.

The lawsuit and investigation come as Kentucky Republicans and Democrats battle for control of the state legislature.
