AG Beshear Announces Resources and Guidelines for Testing Backlogged Rape Kits

kyoag

Attorney General Andy Beshear’s office is providing law enforcement agencies a set of resources and guidelinesto aid in investigating results of more than 3,000 backlogged rape kits.

The so-called SAFE ‘tool kit’ includes instructions for managing the results, pre-planning investigations, reviewing DNA results and notifying and interviewing victims.

A review by former Auditor Adam Edelen found more than 3,000 untested rape kits across the state.

Earlier this year, Frankfort approved spending $4.5 million from a lawsuit settlement to clear the backlog.

The kit includes instructions for managing the results, pre-planning investigations, reviewing DNA results and notifying and interviewing victims.

Beshear says kits have been returned to law enforcement in Lexington and Louisville and will soon be reaching other police and sheriffs’ departments across the state.
