Glasgow attorney and former Kentucky House Speaker Bobby Richardson is the emcee at the 137th annual Fancy Farm Picnic this August.
Event chairman Mark Wilson said Richardson’s background as a high ranking official coupled with his rural upbringing makes him “a good addition to the venue.” Richardson said events like the Fancy Farm Picnic are important to Kentucky’s political history. He said one hundred years ago, politicians used similar events to get their message heard by the public.
“Cause that was the way your views were assimilated, people needed the entertainment and came out to hear those things. So it sure is part of the living history of Kentucky politics.” Richardson said.
While Richardson is a Democrat, Wilson said organizers encourage emcees to be non-partisan while speaking at the picnic. Wilson said with regards to the current political climate: “Things always seem to work out at Fancy Farm, everyone just tries to have a good time.” Fancy Farm Picnic is in its 137th year. The annual event is a fundraiser for Saint Jerome Catholic Church.
