Ky Secretary of State Projects Primary Election Voter Turnout of 30 Percent
Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is projecting a voter turnout of 30% or less in the primary election on Tuesday.
Grimes said in a release on Thursday a turnout of 30% would be the highest participation in a Kentucky primary election in nearly a decade. Some 32% of Kentuckians voted in the 2010 midterm primary.
Grimes said absentee ballots are an indicator of the final turnout. Her office says as of Monday, nearly 25,000 people had voted in person on machines in county clerk’s offices and approximately 12,000 mail-in absentee ballots were sent to voters who requested them.
There are 3.3 million registered voters in Kentucky.
