Kentucky’s First Congressional District has joined a regional economic development organization in an effort to attract investment and research partnerships.

Congressman James Comer’s office said in a release this week his district is the Tennessee Valley Corridor’s 13th in a region that spans five states.

Executive Manager Darrell Akins says the district features a “tremendous national security footprint” with Fort Campbell and the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

“The objective of all of this is to create partnerships among these federal facilities to create ways in which those federal investments can be leveraged through various ways through entrepreneurship, tech transfer and other means,” Akins said.

Tennessee Valley Authority Government Relations Manager Virginia Gray will serve as Comer’s representative on the TVC Board of Directors.

Comer says he is confident she will succeed in advancing economic opportunities for communities throughout the region.
