McCracken County Sheriff Will Retire At End Of June

McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden says he will retire at the end of this month after serving 12 years in the role.

Hayden began his career in law enforcement in 1990 and joined the Sheriff’s Department in 2003. He said he has fulfilled his lifelong dream of serving as sheriff.

“I’ve done the absolute best job that I can do and I just feel very strongly that it’s the right time to step aside and allow someone else to be able to experience the same thing I’ve been able to,” Hayden said.

Captain Matt Carter will fill the remaining six months of Hayden’s term. Hayden said Carter is “honest” and “hardworking” and has always proven to do the right thing.

Carter is running unopposed for Sheriff in the November election.

Hayden said he does not have any specific plans regarding his retirement, but said he is going to take a "quick breather" and spend some time with his family.
