The Paducah City Commission approved a services agreement on Tuesday for the design and construction of an aquatics and recreation facility with a base fee of $1.1 million. The estimated budget for the construction is $15 million.

Nashville-based firm Lose Design will begin designing the facility next week with construction to follow.

Paducah City Manager Jim Arndt says he is looking forward to the next phase of the process. Arndt said, “We’re ready to get started. We’re ready to make this vision a reality.”

The facility is part of the City of Paducah’s strategic plan. Officials say it will fulfill an action item that calls on the city to research, plan, design and construct a sports plex and recreation facility.

Construction is slated to begin in the next fiscal year.

Correction: This story has been corrected to note that the $1.1 million figure is a base fee for the services agreement. The estimated construction budget for the facility is $15 million.
