West Kentucky Community and Technical College is offering free ultrasounds for expectant mothers next week. Diagnostic Medical Sonography students will perform the ultrasounds Monday afternoons through the spring semester.

DMS Clinical Coordinator Kimberly Savage said the program allows students to gain obstetric experience without certain pressures.

“We do have students that go out to clinical sites and get to perform these scans on expecting when but there’s pressure from a clinical schedule,” Savage said.

Savage said OB volunteers are welcome to take pictures of the ultrasound screen but the program does not offer printed images.

Volunteers must have a previous normal ultrasound and provide a document from their doctor stating completion of the ultrasound and permission to be scanned. The ultrasounds at the college are not diagnostic scans. The last day for expecting mothers to volunteer for an ultrasound is April 29.

The ultrasounds will be in the Allied Health Building, Room W105 at WKCTC. Volunteers can contact Savage at kimberly.savage@kctcs.edu to schedule an appointment.
