Morning Cram [dirty pillows edition]

From NPR: A new Carrie movie comes as Halloween approaches, but NPR's Arts Desk Senior Producer Elizabeth Blair isn’t fascinated with the tortured teenager. She’s terrified by the girl’s mother, Margaret White.  Kentucky: The Kentucky court system went without Internet or phone service for two days because police say thieves cut the lines looking for recyclable material. A man involved in the murder-kidnapping of CaSondra Evrard lost his first bid for parole.

Tennessee: Tennessee Department of Transportation officials are using message boards across the state to curb traffic deaths. The state Supreme Court declines a challenge to the voter photo identification law. A group of Mississippi River mayors and the Delta Regional Authority asked for more congressional funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Gov. Bill Haslam names his own judicial nominating panel after fellow Republican legislators let the previous commission expire earlier this year.

Illinois: The state Department of Employment Security is delaying today’s release of last month’s employment data indefinitely because of the partial government shutdown.

Whitney grew up listening to Car Talk to and from her family’s beach vacation each year, but it wasn’t until a friend introduced her to This American Life that radio really grabbed her attention. She is a recent graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she studied journalism. When she’s not at WKMS, you can find her working on her backyard compost pile and garden, getting lost on her bicycle or crocheting one massive blanket.
