Illinois Police Shooting Suspect Killed in Pope Co. After Weeklong Hunt

Illinois State Police

Illinois State Police say a man suspected in the non-fatal shooting of a police officer has been shot and killed in an incident that also left an FBI agent wounded.

Authorities say Dracy "Clint" Pendleton was killed in an early Sunday morning shootout in an abandoned house near the Shawnee National Forest in Pope County. Details about the wounded federal agent were not immediately disclosed. He is expected to survive.

Pendleton was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a police officer during a May 7 traffic stop in Mahomet, Illinois. In the immediate aftermath of that shooting, a state trooper pursuing Pendleton struck and killed a 26-year-old woman.

The hunt for Pendleton lasted for more than a week, with authorities closing a portion of the national forest.
