The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is repairing a section of U.S. highway 62 in Caldwell County after flood waters caused a small landslide.
The landslide is located on a 150 foot stretch of the highway between Princeton and Dawson Springs.
KYTC District One spokesperson Keith Todd said the sheer weight of the groundwater has caused the hillside under the road to move, causing the almost sinkhole-like crack in the pavement.
“You know we just had continuous rain there day after day and the ground gets saturated it becomes a liquefied state. I’m really kind of surprised we haven’t had more of these scattered around the region.” said Todd.
Todd said people traveling between Princeton and Dawson Springs should take I-69 instead of the U.S. 62. Repairs are expected to take at least a week.
Todd said the cost will not be known until the project is nearly complete.
