A National Weather Service meteorologist said people in west Kentucky should expect gusty winds, heavy rainfall and flooding potential Thursday through Sunday.
NWS Paducah meteorologist Rick Shanklin said gusty winds are expected to pick up from speeds around 30 miles-per-hour on Thursday to around 40 miles-per-hour on Saturday. He said the heaviest rainfall will arrive Friday night into Saturday with severe storms possible. River levels will rise and may cause flooding. Shanklin said small streams and urban areas could also potentially flood.

“It is a pretty dynamic system with the wind fields and all,” Shanklin said. “Certainly all modes of severe weather are possible: damaging thunderstorm wind gusts, hail and the tornado potential certainly shouldn’t be ruled out.”
Shanklin said trees could more easily fall as a result of the gusty winds. NWS Paducah predicts more heavy rain over the next couple of weeks. NWS Paducah advises people should never drive through flooded roads.
