Calloway Judge Exec. Directs Library Board To Resubmit Names For Open Seat

Calloway County Judge Executive Kenny Imes is directing the county library board of trustees to restart a board appointment process after one of the finalists withdrew their name.

Imes said in a fiscal court meeting on Wednesday that Joe Walker notified him that he was pulling his name from consideration, citing health issues.

Walker’s term on the board expired this month and he had reapplied, making the finalist list along with hospital employee Vonnie Hays Adams.

The fiscal court was expected to choose one of them on Wednesday. Imes said there will be no appointment until trustees reconvene and start another process since there were not two names to consider.

A central board issue is how to proceed with expanding and renovating the library.

The board's majority voted last month to proceed with a plan to build a separate children's library behind the current library and to connect the two buildings. This decision was met with opposition from community members who said they did not want the buildings separated.

The board is also without a president following Audrey Neal's recent resignation. The library is taking applications for her seat until the end of the month.
