Former Racer Ja Morant Named NBA Rookie Of The Year

NBA

Former Murray State University Racer basketball star Ja Morant is the 2019-2020 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year.

Morant played for the Racers before becoming the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Morant earned 99 first-place votes from a global panel of 100 sportscasters and journalists to win the title with 498 points. Each first-place vote counts for five points, with three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.

Kendrick Nunn of the Miami Heat came in second place. Former Duke Blue Devil Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans rounds out the top three.

Morant played two seasons with Murray State before entering the NBA Draft. He was the 15th Racer to be named the Player of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference.
