As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Hopkins County rises to 33, county Judge/Executive Jack Whitfield is increasing social distancing requirements by imposing a county curfew.
Whitfield signed an executive order Thursday prohibiting those under 18 from going out in public without a parent or guardian from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The order also bans groups of 10 or more from congregating in public.
“The curfew is a result of consultation with health department officials, area health care services, local law enforcement, and others regarding the quick spread of the disease,” county officials said in a press release.
The executive order will be enforced by local law enforcement. KRS 39A.100(2)(c) allows judge/executives increased power during states of emergency in their jurisdiction. That power includes the authority to order curfews and other extraordinary measures.
