The Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency is in the planning stages of building a large solar farm in west Kentucky.

The Lyon County project is scheduled to be completed by 2022. KYMEA president and CEO Doug Buresh said that the project’s development is expected to generate 400 construction jobs. He said that the solar farm will be sizeable.

"Well, it's gonna be 86 megawatts," Buresh said. "And in terms of size, it’s about 800 acres, so it's a very large footprint."

Buresh said that the agency considered about two hundred options to bring more renewable energy into KYMEA’s portfolio, including options for wind and solar energy.

The solar farm will provide power for eight municipalities in Kentucky, including Bardwell, Madisonville, and Providence.
