WKMS News Director Matt Markgraf Says Goodbye

Sep 9, 2019

After 13 years at WKMS - first as a student, then  "web guy," then News Director - Matt Markgraf is moving on to a new career as a project manager and business analyst.

We'll miss his voice on the air and on social media and his talent for bringing us important stories that inform your day.

Matt says:

"I have worked for WKMS for nearly 13 years, starting as a student. The trust and encouragement the staff gave me as a student, that helped me start my career, is something I've tried to give back to the students who have worked with me over the years. I have always tried to treat them as professional peers, challenging them to rapidly produce quality work while affording them temporal flexibility. Hearing their voices on NPR and their pride when they win awards are among my proudest achievements.

Other than my departure, the WKMS News Room is fully-staffed, with Liam Niemeyer and five excellent students - thanks to our student journalism fund. I know someone great will take my spot. I'll miss you all and have great respect for the tremendous work public media does.

I'll be listening!"

And for those that will miss Matt, don't worry: he'll still be volunteering during pledge drives and will debut an international music show this January as a volunteer. Have a message to share about his work? Email him at mmarkgraf@murraystate.edu

Thanks for over a decade of radio together, Matt!
