Two Hopkinsville businessmen will reopen the Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway. Jim Hale, owner of Randolph-Hale Electronics, and Ronnie Jones, 0wner of Jones Bros. Towing & Trucking, purchased the speedway and adjoining 317 acres for $990,000 at an auction yesterday.
Jones said he was impressed by the local support they received after purchasing the venue.
“The business community right there in the Calvert City area, and obviously several different government officials there, were very tickled that local people bought [the speedway]," said Jones. "I mean, we’re from Hopkinsville, that’s only forty-fifty miles away. It was amazing the amount of interest and enthusiasm there."
Jones said he and his business partner have loved motor-racing their whole lives and hope to bring a reputation to what Jones calls one of the best dirt racing tracks in the nation and what Hale calls "the Taj Mahal of dirt racing."
Hale said he's not sure why the previous owners closed the track which is located off of Interstate 24 near Exit 27.
If repairs and preparations go well, Jones said he’s hopeful races could begin next March.
