The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting death of a Marshall County man during an alleged robbery Monday morning at a storage unit in Reidland.

According to a police report issued by the MCSD, 49-year-old Jeffrey Conrad, of Benton, Ky., shot 30-year-old Garlon Casey Cox, also of Benton, after he discovered Cox and another man robbing his unit at the AAA storage facility on Eagles Nest Drive. Conrad then reported the incident to police. Cox was transported to Lourdes Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Brandon York of Benton ran from the scene and was later apprehended after a chase. Both Cox and York were previously convicted of theft. Cox was arrested in Bowling Green earlier this year and charged with felony theft.

Burglary tools and methamphetamine were found at the scene, according to Sheriff Jon Hayden's report.

At this time, police have not indicated Conrad will face any charges.
