Man Indicted for Murder Relating to McCracken Storage Unit Burglary

McCracken County Sheriff's Department

A special grand jury has indicted Jeffrey Conrad of Benton for a murder relating to a storage unit burglary in McCracken County. The 49-year-old Conrad is accused of shooting 30-year-old Garlon Cox of Benton.

According to a release from the McCracken County Sheriff’s department, Cox and 36-year-old Brandon York, also of Benton, were burglarizing Conrad’s storage unit in Reidland yesterday morning when Conrad confronted them with a gun and shot Cox. Conrad then reported the incident to the police. Cox was pronounced dead at Lourdes Hospital.

Both York and Cox were convicted of theft earlier this year.

An investigation into Cox’s murder is ongoing. Conrad is being held at the McCracken County Regional Jail.
