A Hopkins County beauty queen competes next week for the 2015 title of Miss Plus America.
The annual beauty pageant is for girls and women size 14 or greater.
Mildred Veron was crowned Ms. Kentucky in May. She goes on to compete for the national title in Atlanta, Georgia next week.
Veron has years of experience as a pageant coach but says she decided to enter herself to gain a new perspective.
“I felt like to be a better pageant coach, I needed to do it myself and really be on the stage and have that experience," said Veron. "It’s really about confidence and I felt that it would help me gain more knowledge into helping other women and young girls who didn’t have that self-confidence.”
She hopes that entering the competition will allow her to be a role model for young competitors and help bolster their self-confidence.
“We’re going to help them with that confidence, with that self-worth about themselves because it’s about feeling confident, doing and feeling good about yourself. No matter what others say, don’t change yourself for others. Keep you, be you, be yourself.”
Veron has experience as a pageant coach and is currently director of Miss Tennessee Latina and Miss Princessa Americas in Clarksville. She faces 24 competitors in her division at The Miss Plus America Finals in Atlanta on August 1st.
