Some Paducah residents won’t have to let the ice slow them down this winter.  The Paducah Convention and Expo Center has approved the installation of a 60' x 120' square foot indoor ice skating rink in the Schroeder Expo Center.

Director of Operations Chuck Tate says the city used to have a smaller ice skating rink downtown that was popular in the winter season.  Tate says the rink should satisfy local demand and be a draw for tourism revenue.

“We’re also bringing in people into Paducah that may be eating and shopping and staying in hotels here so, just making it a whole experience would be great as well," said Tate.

Tate says the rink will be big enough to rent out for a host of uses.

“We can do classes for figure skating, toddler skate, obviously around the winter there’s a lot of parties, Christmas, birthdays, there’s just a lot of stuff we can do. “

Installation will run around $124,000 plus $6,500 for purchasing a Zamboni.

Installation is set for November with plans to open a week before Thanksgiving through mid-January. The next closest ice skating rink is in Owensboro.
