[Audio] Murray Rotary Club Collecting School Supplies for Students of Flooded Louisiana Schools

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Murray Rotary Club President Mark Welch speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about the club's relief efforts for victims of the Louisiana floods.

Welch says the August 13 rainstorm put the Amite River 17 feet over flood stage and brought a trillion gallons of water down on southern Louisiana.

The Murray Rotary Club is collecting school supplies for students of the 15 schools in Livingston Parish that have been flooded out. Livingston Parish Rotary club identifies the five most needed items as loose leaf paper, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, and blue ink pens. Volunteers will collect these items at the Bel-Air Shopping Center in Murray from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on September 8. Gallimore Electrical Contractors and New Life Book Store will accept donations from those who cannot make it to the collection day.

Welch says those who would like to make a financial contribution can donate to the Rotary of Baton Rouge Foundation.
