Paducah Warming Center In Need Of Volunteers

istock photos

The Paducah Warming Center is seeking volunteers for the 2016 - 17 season. The center provides a place for ‘people in need of shelter from colder weather’ to stay the night, eat a hot meal and take a shower.

Volunteers work on nights when the temperature is below 40 degrees; they work in groups to cover 3 shifts each night, that Scheduling coordinator Holly Long said last about 5 hours. Long said even with 60 volunteers last year, they still fell short of people to cover shifts.

“What I found, there’s an attitude that says ‘Well they’ve probably got everyone they need, they’ve probably got this, they don’t need anybody.’ That is not the case with us.”

The Warming Center is holding a training session tonight at 6:00 in the Community Kitchen Building on 1237 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The next session is November 14. Interested volunteers can call 270-217-9096, or contact Holly Long at hgklong@comcast.net.
