The Trail of Tears Commission is sponsoring an annual intertribal Pow Wow in Hopkinsville September 7th and 8th.

The Pow Wow is now in its 32nd year and is a celebration for Native Americans of varying tribes traveling in to represent their heritage. The weekend offers an opportunity to experience traditional dances, crafts and centuries old storytelling demonstrations.

James Dossett is the president of the Trail of Tears Commission. He said Native Americans come from all over the country for the gathering. “I’ve been told by some of the Native Americans that come every year, that the spirits are with them here. They come to dance. They come to have a good time," said Dossett

Organizers expect an attendance between four and five thousand. Dossett said he hopes the Pow Wow gives people a greater understanding of what the Native Americans went through on the Trail of Tears.
