From interviews with local musicians to live concerts in our studios, music is a major part of what we do here at WKMS.

Beyond the Edge features Murray Band Quailbones from WKMS Studios

Public radio nationwide has a track record of providing musical artists their first public platform for performance. Continuing the WKMS commitment to musicians, Program Director Tracy Ross features an hour of live music with Murray band Quailbones Saturday night at 10, the final hour of his decade-long program Beyond the Edge.  WKMS is Murray State University’s listener supported public radio service.

Quailbones is a four piece guitar based alternative group from Murray. Band members include Tim Peyton on guitar, Corbet Hall on vocals, Jordan Ferguson on drums, and Jeff Bugg on bass. The group will perform original work and at least one cover song.

Ross says, “Supporting local musicians in the Four Rivers Region is not only important to me, but also a part of the WKMS mission. My hope is that we’ll be able to highlight many more regional bands on this station in 2012.

Beyond the Edge airs Saturdays from 8 to 11 p.m. and features an eclectic mix of rock, alt-country, folk, and other genres from artists such as Neko Case, Radiohead, David Bowie, The Who, and Jenny Lewis. It’s not uncommon for Ross to feature CDs by local artists on Beyond the Edge, but this is the very first time he hosts live music with performers present in the WKMS studios on the 8th floor of Price Doyle Fine Arts Building.

Funding for WKMS, the non-commercial educational radio service of Murray State, comes from individual listeners, business underwriters, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Murray State University. See WKMS programming schedules at www.wkms.org

The station's media services include 91.3 WKMS, Murray; WKMS HD-1 and All-Music HD-2; 90.9 WKMD and WKMD HD-1 and HD-2, Madisonville; 89.5 WKMT, Fulton; 99.5 Paris, TN; and All-Music 92.5 Paducah and 101.5 Madisonville. The station also streams both WKMS HD-1 and HD-2 at www.wkms.org.
