Media Release: Gideon's Rifle Voted Winner of WKMS Battle of the Bands

Murray, KY. Paducah band Gideon’s Rifle emerged victorious as the winner of the first ever WKMS Battle of the Bands finale hosted by Maiden Alley Cinema on March 27. Audience voting was tabulated after the four finalists each performed a three song set. The bands played to a sold-out crowd and Gideon’s Rifle returned to the stage for an encore once they were announced as the winner.

The finalists who also performed that night included The Drunken Poets, Murray; Float As The Ghost, Portland, TN and Bowling Green, KY; and the Evan Webb Band, McClure, IL, Paducah, Caruthersville and Cape Girardeau, MO.

Gideon’s Rifle receives a three-day recording session at King Sound Studio in Paducah and will perform live on WKMS during the mid-day music and community conversation program Sounds Good this Friday, April 4. The band members include Shannon Vetter (guitar), Alex Coltharp (banjo), Kimberly McDaniel (mandolin), Jake Siener (bass), Josh Coffey (violin), and Byron Farrar (cello).

Program Director Tracy Ross says, “The WKMS Battle of the Bands was more of a success than we’d anticipated. Many quality bands entered and almost one thousand people participated by voting and by attending the finals at Maiden Alley Cinema. It’s obvious that local music is important to our region. We plan to do this again.”
